The health and safety of our staff and persons affected by our operation is extremely important. AGAT has designed and implemented a comprehensive safety program. A safety committee is lead by a designated Safety Officer. Minimum requirements for this position include St. John’s Ambulance Training, WHMIS, TDG, H2S Alive and leadership experience. AGAT provides in-house training for TDG, WHMIS and specifics of the safety program for all individuals. Records of training are maintained to assist in the timely update of training.
The program includes elements of incident reporting, MSDS databasing, fume hood monitoring and other important safety specifics.
AGAT Laboratories was awarded the Partnership Certificate of Recognition in September 2002 by the Alberta Safety Council. This Certificate recognizes that AGAT Laboratories Ltd. has:
- Developed and implemented a Workplace Health and Safety Management System and
- Met the standards for Partnership through an independent evaluation of our health and safety system.
AGAT Laboratories was awarded the Work Safe Alberta 2005 Best Safety Performer Award by the Government of Alberta Human resources and Employment for exceptional performance in workplace health and safety.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
AGAT Laboratories utilizes a waste management system that includes classification, consolidation, storage and disposal. Each individual waste stream has been identified in every written analytical procedure with instructions for treatment. Secured storage drums and berms are set up for collection and storage. As waste Designated Waste Managers arrange to have approved waste handlers manage it. We focus on reduction, reuse and recycling including paper and paper products, glass, plastics and reusable containers. The system includes the handling of hazardous samples and lab spill cleanup waste. |
