Core analysis frequently emerges as the standard and can be considered the cornerstone upon which formation evaluation rests. AGAT's core analysis not only measures porosity by different means, it also samples different kinds of porosity at different vertical and horizontal scales and under different physiochemical conditions. Therefore, a reliable baseline is needed in analyzing data from several measurements.

The three key reservoir parameters determined are porosity, permeability, and fluid saturations.

Porosity can be determined at ambient or reservoir conditions and is an indication of the storage capacity of the reservoir. Core porosities are used to calibrate logs and for reserves calculations.

Permeability is determined in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Engineers can use horizontal permeability data to define flow capacity, permeability distribution and profile. Vertical permeability is used to define coring probability and gravity drainage potential.

Fluid Saturations (oil and water) can be determined by retort distillation or by Dean Stark distillation, which help define the presence of hydrocarbons (net pay and contacts) and type of hydrocarbon that may be produced. Sponge Core in conjunction with low invasion coring, provides accurate oil and water saturation data and facilitates identification of oil zones for secondary and territory recovery, oil/water contacts and transition zones.

Core Imaging AGAT Imaging possesses the means for providing you with vivid and detailed images of your core in a variety of formats ranging from flat images to unrolled images, from rotating movies to virtual objects.

Images are acquired with a Phase One Digital Scan Back, providing the high resolution and wide dynamic range characteristic of excellent image quality. The 5000 x 7200 pixel CCD chip employed by the Scan Back enables image captures of up to 103 MB. Lighting for image capturing is provided by a set of full-spectrum, UV-free, 5500ºK daylight balanced Scandles lamps. Printed copies of the captured images are made on Kodak Xtralife photo paper, long lasting and ideal for archival purposes. Digital copies of the captured images are available on CD in a variety of file formats, most commonly TIFF, JPG, and PDF. In addition to the Scan Back, a variety of film and flatbed scanners are used to maximize the flexibility of our image-capturing methods.
